Briton Finds Venomous Centipede in House

Wed Aug 31,11:01 AM ET

LONDON - Aaron Balick expected to find a tiny mouse rustling behind the TV in his apartment. Instead, he found a venomous giant centipede that somehow hitched a ride from South America to Britain.

"Thinking it was a mouse, I went to investigate the sound. The sound was coming from under some papers which I lifted, expecting to see the mouse scamper away," the 32-year-old psychotherapist said Wednesday. "Instead, when I lifted the papers, I saw this prehistoric looking animal skitter away behind a stack of books."

He trapped the 9-inch-long creature between a stack of books and put it in a plastic container.

The next day he took it to Britain's Natural History Museum, which identified the insect as a Scolopendra gigantea — the world's biggest species of centipede.

Stuart Hine, an entomologist at the museum, said it was likely the centipede hitched a ride aboard a freighter, likely with a shipment of fruit.

"Dealing with over 4,000 public and commercial inquiries every year, we have come to expect the unexpected. However, when Aaron produced this beast from his bag I was staggered," Hine said. "Not even I expected to be presented with this."

The Scolopendra gigantea has front claws that are adapted to deliver venom when it stings, which can lead to a blistering rash, nausea and fever. The sting is rarely life-threatening, but painful.

yah, uh-huh . . . "rarely life-threatening, but painful " is ScienceSpeak for "Writhing on the guerney in the E.R., you will WISH a thousand times that you WERE dead!!"

so there ya go, William, you happy now? -- your little beastie has invaded the heart of the empire

Judy Garland's Famed Ruby Slippers Stolen

Mon Aug 29, 5:49 PM ET

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. - A pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" and insured for $1 million is missing from a Grand Rapids museum.

Police Chief Leigh Serfling said the slippers were stolen late Saturday or early Sunday. Someone entered the museum through a window and broke into the small display case holding the slippers.

"There's not a whole lot of evidence," Serfling said. "We're hoping that someone in the community has seen something."

if the serflings didn't see it, Y knot ask the lord?

Children's Discovery Museum director John Kelsch said the slippers belong to a Los Angeles man who loaned them to the museum for several weeks this summer.

The children's museum houses the Judy Garland museum, which displayed the same pair of slippers last year. Garland was born in Grand Rapids in 1922.

"The slippers are a major attraction at our museum," Kelsch said in a news release Monday. "It is our hope that the slippers can be recovered immediately."

Four pairs of ruby slippers worn by Garland in the movie are known to exist, including one pair on display at the Smithsonian. Another pair sold at Christie's auction house in 2000 for $666,000.

Food is Just a 4 Letter Word

i'm an old fan of Sumerologist S.N. Kramer -- here, his translations and expertise in Sumerian culture link Sumerian shamanic or "lower spiritual" practice/understanding with the Christian Last Supper

here's a theft from Bible Origins

One gets the notion from Genesis's narrator that by "eating a fruit" one can "obtain knowledge." This concept appears in Sumerian myths. Kramer has noted that Enki, the god of Wisdom, desires "TO KNOW" about several plants in his wife's garden.

[Earth)]

His assistant does the actual picking of the plants and presents them to Enki for eating. Later, Enki's enraged wife, Ninhursag, learns what has happened. Having eaten of her plants without her permission, she curses her husband with death.

the issue here is one of primal power, and of the sovereignty of the Earth, personified as primal Feminine ( prosaically the myth also addresses natural law, the mortality of the body)

but unlike the Hebrew Genesis, in which the "enraged and offended god" is masculine, in Sumer the outraged party is feminine, suggesting a matriarchal or at least strongly gyno-centric cultural consciousness

Enki becomes deathly sick and feels the pain of death beginning in his various body parts. Eventually a fox is successful in persuading Ninhursag to relent, and heal Enki. She asks him what part of his body "hurts" and then makes either a god or goddess to heal that part.

Note the parallels to Adam and Eve. Adam does not pick the fruit, another does. A wife is seen as bringing about the downfall of her husband and his impending death for eating forbidden fruit. The important concept, however, is that the god "of Wisdom," before eating each plant, asks "What is this ?" then he "obtains knowledge by eating" the plant. Note also that both Adam and Enki eat of a Tree-
Kramer (Emphasis mine):

"Enki in the marshlands looks about, looks about, he says to his messenger Isimud: "Of the plants their fate I would decree, their 'heart' I WOULD KNOW; What, pray is this (plant) ? What, pray, is this (plant) ?" His messenger Isimud answers: "My king, THE TREE-PLANT," he says to him; He cuts it down for him, HE (Enki) EATS IT." (p.148, Kramer)

as at the Last Supper, what distinguishes the "god," or king etc is the ritualization of ingestion, the blessing of what is being eaten -- subtextually assuming the inherent non-human consciousness of plants (and by extension of course animals)

this appears pagan and maybe idolatrous to the modern judeo-christian, but Melchisedek establishes the sacred relationship (and responsibility) to "food" early in the Torah's first book, at Genesis 14: 18-20:

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

the second book of the Torah extends the concept, clearly ritualizing the blessing in Exodus 3:1-5, with the sanctity of the Land "later" reflected in the Christian Host/Body of Christ :

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up."

When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am."

"Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."

the motif in Enki's "questioning of the heart" of each ingested plant is fulfilled by atonement in Christ's "This is my Body" -- the crucial difference perhaps being that in Sumer, where Inanna held great power, the Earth and it's "bodily possessions" are rendered feminine, or at least under feminine "ownership"

Enki's samplings of Earth's various consciousnesses has the flavor of the outsider or alien, while Jesus' transubstantiation with Earth is much more intimate, a unification, a full descent with earthly substance/consciousness -- something only a very assured and masculine person could attempt, much less get away with

... suggesting that the fulfillment was not on the Cross, in the intermediate material realm, but a culmination of the "three days of descent"

Another Sumerian myth about "the Queen of Heaven," Inanna, has her speaking to her brother, Utu the sun-god, to the effect that she has no knowledge about love and sex, she requests that he accompany her in a descent to the earth, to the mountains, where she will eat the various plants there. It is only after having eaten these assorted, un-named herbs including, apparently, Cedar and Cypress trees, that Inanna now possesses knowledge about love and sex in order to perform her wifely functions (in hymns she is "the bride" of Dumuzi and the goddess of Love and of Sex).

again, the Sumerian version has a celestial (i.e., "alien") goddess descending into incarnation via food -- in this case, the (very suspicious) "unnamed herbs"

partly because "food" is a vector of earthly consciousness, fasting has been used to cleanse, restore, and clarify the mind/spirit

partaking of food in full consciousness and not-partaking in full consciousness combines the best of both worlds

Little Dynamo at Home

Earth's Core Spinning Faster Than Crust

By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID, AP Science Writer

Thu Aug 25, 2:40 PM ET

WASHINGTON - The giant iron ball at the center of the Earth appears to be spinning a bit faster than the rest of the planet.

(The solid core that measures about 1,500 miles in diameter is spinning about one-quarter to one-half degree faster, per year, than the rest of the world, scientists from Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign report in Friday's issue of the journal Science.

The spin of the Earth's core is an important part of the dynamo that created the planet's magnetic field, and researcher Xiaodong Song said he believes magnetic interaction is responsible for the different rates of spin.

Spin me back down the years
and the days of my youth.
Draw the lace and black curtain
and shut out the whole truth.
Spin me down the long ages
let them sing the Song.

. . .

So, come on you childhood heroes,
won't you rise up from the pages
Of your comic-books, your super-crooks,
and show us all the way?

Well, make your will and testament,
won't you join your local government?
We'll have Superman for president,
let Robin save the day

So, where the hell was Biggles
when you needed him last Saturday?
And where are all the sportsmen who
always pulled you through?

They're all resting down in Cornwall,
writing up their memoirs
For a paperback edition of the boy scout manual

So you ride yourselves over the fields
And you make all your animal deals
And your wise men don't know how it feels
To be Thick as a Brick

"Thick as a Brick" (I. Anderson)

The faster spin of the core was proposed in 1996 by two of the current study's authors, Paul Richards of Lamont-Doherty and Song, now an associate professor at Illinois.

The researchers studied the travel times of earthquake waves through the Earth, analyzing what are called couplets. Those are earthquakes that originate within a half-mile or so of one another but at different times.
They analyzed 30 quakes occurring in the South Atlantic and measured at 58 seismic stations in Alaska and found differences in the travel times and shape of the waves, indicating differences in the core as the waves passed through the center of the Earth.

Analyzing those differences, they calculated that the core is spinning slightly faster than the rest of the planet and is a bit lumpy.

That solid inner core is surrounded by a fluid outer core about 4,200 miles across.

Since the planet is divided into 360 degrees of longitude, a core spinning one-quarter to one-half degree faster than the outer surface could take between 700 and 1,400 years to get one full revolution ahead.

But Song said in a telephone interview that he expected that rate to vary over time and sometimes the core might be spinning slower than the rest of the planet.

"What we see right now is a snapshot of a long time process between the magnetic field and the inner core," he said. "I do expect to see this rate change with time."

"What is surprising for us is that we could actually see it in such a short time scale," he said, noting the measurements had been made over less than a decade.

Geologists are used to thinking in terms of thousands or millions of years for geological processes, he said.

The work was funded by the U.S.

Churches seeking marketing-savvy breed of pastor

By G. Jeffrey MacDonald, Correspondent of The Christian Science

Monitor Fri Aug 19, 4:00 AM ET

[via Yahoo News]

A year ago, the Rev. Scott Schlotfelt was weighing job offers from three churches smitten by what he had to offer.

But they weren't talking about his preaching or counseling skills. What they were seeking, like a number of churches across the United States, was some savvy marketing. And like a growing number of pastors, consultants, and volunteers, Mr. Schlotfelt was eager to do some branding for the Lord.

"branding for the Lord"

the Lord is now a Bluelight Special, where the ladies trample one another at Yuletide to secure bargain DVDs

"I've kind of had a heart for marketing, [and] I think a lot of churches are looking for outreach" specialists, says Schlotfelt, outreach pastor at Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, Md. He received his undergraduate degree in marketing, then studied for the ministry and helped congregations build up their images through advertising in Las Vegas and Amarillo, Texas.

Vegas and Texas, those bastions of righteousnes and mercy

"It's the medium of marketing that's used to get a message across [in today's culture], whether it's an election or you're trying to sell a product," he adds. "But in this case, we're just trying to hear the hope of a new life that is eternal."

dream on motherfucker

To succeed, a number of denominations and local congregations alike are seeking marketing know-how, whether among church staff or from from hired experts.

Churches' outreach to potential members as summer winds down. The United Methodist Church, for instance, will make its largest media buy of the year starting Aug. 30 - a four-week, $4 million effort. To get that marketing know-how, they're turning to those who know how to sell cars, houses, and other commercial products.

Nixon would be perfect for this, unfortunately he is extremely indisposed

"The church in more ways than not is mirroring Wall Street and the world and Madison Avenue," says H. B. London, vice president of pastoral ministries at Focus on the Family, a national resource network for evangelical Christians. "We're [lagging] behind them to a certain degree, but we're using all their techniques."

the goddess runs the churches on the left, and wall street runs the right

where does the Lord come into this, again? oh yah . . . he's still nailed to that Cross, by Empire and "priests"

In the past decade, several firms have honed a niche by providing churches with marketing professionals for hire. Aspire! One, a marketing firm in Sycamore, Ill., has branched out to serve church clients - who might need one mailer or an entire brand identity - alongside its corporate ones. At Church Marketing Solutions, Inc. in Centreville, Va., which offers low-cost marketing, 4 out of 5 staffers have masters in business degrees. At the headquarters of Outreach Inc. in Vista, Calif., 120 employees have brought corporate-style marketing to thousands of congregations.

Seeking a snazzy web siteMeanwhile, some churches with sufficient resources are doing as Mountain did and dedicating in-house staff to marketing. Six-month-old Kinetic Christian Church in Charlotte, N.C. noticed what the Rev. Scott Johnson was doing with lively images on the website of an Indianapolis congregation. On that basis, recruiters hired him away to Charlotte.

"They saw what I'd been doing and said, 'What you've been doing there, we want you to do it here,' " Mr. Johnson says. Now an associate pastor, he uses his graphic-design background to create images for outreach marketing campaigns.

The same visuals - for example, a plug in a socket as a metaphor for prayer - light up the big screen when the congregation gathers for worship in a former movie theater. On the side, he teaches church professionals from as far away as Florida and California to use graphic-design software in their own marketing efforts.

More business backgroundFor many in church leadership, corporate-style marketing is nothing new. Among males enrolled in seminary in 2000, the most common educational background was technical science, including business, communications, and computer science, according to a study by the Center for the Study of Theological Education at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York. (For women, it's social science.)

Another factor: almost 2 in 3 seminarians are over 30 years of age, according to 2003 data from the Association of Theological Schools, which means church leaders often have had business experience.
Thinking in terms of customers and markets, however, might not always bring out the best in a church leader, according to Jackson Carroll, a professor emeritus of religion and society and former director of research at the Pulpit & Pew Project at Duke University in Durham, N.C. He cites the example of Southern preachers who took up the cause of civil rights in the 1960s despite vehement local resistance.

"It didn't help marketing at all," Professor Carroll says. "People left churches in droves when pastors or leaders in the congregation took a strong stand in favor of integration, [but] they did it anyway."

Today, he says, pastors who make marketing a top priority run the risk of fostering "a congregation that refuses to deal with issues of individual or social justice because it might offend someone."

"Go therefore ..."Others, however, see marketing as a necessary part of Christ Jesus' great commission: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" (Matt. 28:19, New Revised Standard Version).

"Marketing and the church, they go hand in hand [because] we're called to bring our message to a community," says Kristal Dove, operations manager at Church Marketing Solutions. But she says not all church leaders should be involved.

"We basically make it so ministers can focus on people and not have to worry about this stuff," Ms. Dove says.

But in the opinion of Mr. London of Focus on the Family, any church leader's success depends at least in part on bringing the best of corporate-marketing tactics to bear on a righteous cause.

"Nearly every pastor is a salesman or a marketer of one kind or another because ... we have a philosophy to sell," he says. "The best marketers and best salesmen will have more converts, will have more people, will take in more money.... Evangelicals are marketers because they're really passionate about their product."

ok, well, all i can say is, if you really knew and feared the Lord, you'd stick to selling refrigerators

good luck, you'll need it

American Stars and Bars

Study Describes Bar at Center of Milky Way

yes? does it have live music?

:O)

By RYAN J. FOLEY, Associated Press Writer 30 minutes ago

MADISON, Wis. - After creating the most detailed analysis yet of what the Milky Way looks like, astronomers say a long bar of stars cuts on an angle through the center of the galaxy that includes the sun and planet Earth.

Some scientists have suspected the presence of the stellar bar, but the survey led by two Wisconsin astronomers shows the bar is far longer than previously believed, and at a specific angle.

The skinny bar is made up of old and red stars and is about 27,000 light years in length, about 7,000 light years longer than previously believed.

a skinny bar, eh?

huh

well, some days you eat the bar, some days the bar eats you

The bar is at a 45 degree angle to the line between our Sun and the center of the galaxy and may put the Milky Way in a small class of galaxies with the unusual shape, researchers say.

now, i'm no mr science, but . . . does it seem a little, eh, peculiar, a bit convenient, rather outside the supposed "laws" of natural chance that this humungous plane of stars is on a 45 degree angle to OUR SUN and the center of the whole friggin galaxy? does that not indicate something at least potentially novel or special about our Sun?

"We're pretty certain the extent and orientation of this bar because we got more data than anybody else that has ever brought to bear on the problem by a long shot," said Ed Churchwell, a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor of astronomy who collaborated on the project.

The team of astronomers used NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope to survey more than 30 million stars in the center of the Milky Way. The orbiting infrared telescope allowed the astronomers to see bright stars through clouds of interstellar dust to draw a vivid portrait of the center of the galaxy.

The new portrait will help astronomers understand how our galaxy looks from the outside and "how it forms together in the big picture," said lead study author Robert Benjamin, a UW-Whitewater professor of physics.

"The stronger the bar the more influence it has on everything going on in the galaxy," said Benjamin.

The study will appear in an upcoming edition of Astrophysical Journal Letters, a leading astronomy journal.

The study should put to rest the idea held by some astronomers that an ellipse is at the center of the galaxy's swirling arms, Churchwell said.
"We've largely been ignorant of this very major structure in our galaxy for all these years," he said.

The hardest work in the study was not observing the stars: the NASA orbiting telescope took about 400 hours of observations. Researchers spent five years preparing for the observation and almost one year making sense of all the data.

The telescope, launched two years ago, is the largest infrared telescope ever launched into space and is trailing the earth in an orbit around the sun. It uses infrared light to penetrate clouds of gas and dust that block astronomers' views from Earth.

The Milky Way is a large, spiral galaxy that contains the sun, solar system and billions of stars that make a luminous band as seen by the naked eye. Its precise size, shape and mass are still unknown.

Billions of galaxies make up the universe and are mostly spiral or elliptical in shape. Galaxies that have stellar bars cut through the center is rare, but not unheard of, scientists say.

Hypnosis and Sauron's EYE

ever notice that the CBS logo (created in 1951) looks a LOT like the Devouring EYE of Sauron in the Lord of the Rings?

just a coincidence, i'm sure . . .

in my blogpost below of August 9, 2005, i wrote about the new CBS teevee series, "Close to Home," and the propagandistic ways in which the US television networks -- with collusion from the government and "intelligence community" -- constantly produce and promote shows which:

1) reinforce collective assumptions of the moral/spiritual supremacy of females over males

2) pander to the hordes of female law school graduates, enticing them to enter and perform "justice system" occupations which allow them -- under the guise of "justice," of course -- to wreak holy-hell vengeance upon the male of the species -- retribution that usually has a LOT more to do with exacting vengeance for personal/relational disappointment than it has to do with "justice"

3) disseminate propaganda that's been running full-tilt for decades now, as part and parcel of america's calculated regression to gynocracy -- the goal is to continue re-structuring western psycho-social mentalities (both individual and collective) in a feminist mold: females are inherently Good, and males are inherently Evil (and thus DESERVING of harsh punishment) -- and that, of course, is PRECISELY what western women want to hear

4) "Close to Home" features a "hot" female prosecutor gleefully and self-righteously "raining justice" down on the Male Bad Guys, who are often pursued and caged for "crimes against women and children" -- obviously, a (successful) continuation of an attempt to keep Mama's Vengeance Machine running at full throttle in the west, that the mancages may be kept full, that the "justice system" with its slavering hordes of fresh female D.A.s, prosecutors, prison guards, probation officers, "counselors," parole review boards, ad nauseum, be kept roaring along like the self-justifying blood-beast that it really is

a couple days later,
this appeared on the Net:

Buerk attacks women broadcasters

Michael Buerk said it was time for society to address the problemNewsreader Michael Buerk has said "almost all the big jobs in broadcasting are held by women" who "decide what we see and hear".

The former Nine O'Clock News presenter told the Radio Times: "Life is lived in accordance with women's rules" and men are now merely "sperm donors".

Buerk added that the "shift in the balance of power between the sexes" had gone too far.

"The result is men are becoming more like women," he said.
He cited Tim Henman and David Beckham as examples.

Most women aren't going to want an unemployable sperm donor loafing around and making the house look untidy.

Michael Buerk

His views are to be screened in a new channel Five series Don't Get Me Started! which gives some of the UK's leading opinion-formers a chance to sound off on the issues they feel most strongly about.

He said while making the programme he "came across what I considered a very personal example of the changes that have taken place".

"Almost all the big jobs in broadcasting were held by women - the controllers of BBC One television and Radio 4 for example. These are the people who decide what we see and hear", he said.

Former BBC One controller Lorraine Heggessey has left the BBC, and has been replaced by a man, Peter Fincham, while Mark Damazer is now the BBC Radio 4 controller, replacing Helen Boaden who is now head of BBC News.

The BBC declined to comment on Buerk's assertions.

Male traits

Buerk added that it was time for society to admit there was a problem.
"Look at the changes in the workplace. There is no manufacturing industry any more; there are no mines; few vital jobs require physical strength," he added.

"What we have now are lots of jobs that require people skills and multi-tasking - which women are a lot better at."

'Happy medium'

While Buerk admitted a lot of the changes were for the better, he questioned whether things had gone too far.

"Products are made for women, cars are made for women - because they control what is being bought," he said.

"Some people might argue that this is a case of the pendulum swinging over the woman's side for a change, and eventually it will find a happy medium."

He added he felt men were being given a lesser role in society.
"All they are is sperm donors, and most women aren't going to want an unemployable sperm donor loafing around and making the house look untidy."

sounds like the damn Dam is beginning to crack!

british and american government, law, media, education, etc., are MATRIARCHAL, and THAT is why our cultures are dis-spirited, fatherless, bloatedly materialistic, and without any sense of justice or honor (those being qualities developed by Those Evil Males, after all)

ALL modern western institutions are MATRIARCHAL, and we are constantly brainwashed into a male-as-criminal mentality to justify the fourth-class citizenship under which british and american males have been living for decades, and to excuse the mass disenfranchisement and caging of boys and men ubiquitous over the past four decades

CBS, the Networks, the Government, the media, the academy, the "justice system" -- like Sauron, all have waged war not just on boys and men for decades, but are attempting to annihilate MASCULINITY itself from the world

it's interesting that both the CBS and Sauron images are female/vaginal, especially the "feral center" of Sauron's Eye -- and the stem of the word "Sauron," of course, means "reptilian" or "snakelike" (as in dinosaur, tyrannosaurus, etc.) -- and along with primal reptilianism, "saur" also connotes "dominance" or "mastery," as in the russian title "tsar," pronounced the same as "saur"

mix 'em together, and Sauron suggests an ancient -- indeed primordial -- energy emerging from the depth of the human bio-psychological strata, the "reptilian" or limbic (i.e., pre-forebrain -- see, e.g. Carl Sagan's The Dragons of Eden)

EXACTLY like our modern matriarchies, a la Biblical accounts from Revelation: a Beast from the "sea," the great well of the collective human Unconscious, returning to enslave and devour all who oppose her will

finally: yesterday, A.P./YahooNews published this:

Giant Caiman Makes a Splash at L.A. Lake

Tue Aug 16, 8:24 AM ET

LOS ANGELES - Park visitors have gone from feeding ducks and fish to nourishing a scaly green creature more likely found in Amazonian swamps than a Los Angeles lake — a giant crocodile-like caiman.

Since a gardener spotted it last Friday, people have tried to glimpse the 200-pound reptile wading and sunbathing at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park.

Like many Angelenos, the animal is an immigrant who is quickly adopting to its new home. It has already acquired, for example, a nickname matching its Latin American roots and its penchant for tortillas tossed by visitors: Carlito.

"They'll swallow anything, and if they can't swallow it, they'll tear pieces until they can eat it," said Jarron Lucas of the Southwestern Herpetologist Society.

Lucas' group, at the request of park rangers, is attempting to capture the animal with nets and a raw chicken, then give it a home at the Los Angeles Zoo. That could take a month, officials say.

Cousins to the crocodile, caimans are mostly found in Central and South America. Experts believe this one, estimated to be as long as 8 feet, was released by its owner.

"They pick up this little reptile that looks really cute when it's little. But when it gets big and starts looking and acting scary, they don't want it any more," Lucas said.

On Saturday, visitors lobbed French bread and jelly doughnuts at the park's 50-acre lake. The caiman didn't bite, though it surfaced several times.

In the afternoon, it was found sunbathing on a grassy area along the shore. When a small lifeguard boat whizzed by, the animal slid into the water and disappeared.

On Sunday, visitors scanned the waters with binoculars and video cameras while officials kept them 80 feet from shore behind yellow police tape.

"It's such an urban area, people just don't see wildlife and people run across it, and they're like, 'Oh, nature!' It scares them," said Bonnie Lea, a member of the herpetologist society.

Eight-year-old Cheyenne Espinoza was among those irked by the caiman
. She wanted to bring a metal bat from her Harbor City home, but her father wouldn't let her.

"I was going to knock the gator out," she said.

too late, Cheyenne

the Beast is already upon US

The rivers are full of crocodile nasties
and He who made kittens put snakes in the grass
He's a lover of life
but a player of pawns
Yes the king on his sunset
lies waiting for dawn
to light up the Jungle
as play is resumed
The monkeys seem willing
to strike up the tunes!

Criminalize Crohn's Disease NOW!

Cannabis-based drugs might relieve bowel disease

Fri Aug 12, 3:41 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Derivatives of the active compound in cannabis -- cannabinoids -- may have the potential for treating inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, UK researchers report.

"The system that responds to cannabis in the brain is present and functioning in the lining of the gut," lead researcher Dr. Karen Wright, of the University of Bath, explained to Reuters Health. "There is an increased presence of one component of this system during inflammatory bowel diseases," she explained.

Wright and her colleagues established the location of cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 in human colon tissue, and used human colon cell lines to investigate the binding of cannabinoid compounds and in wound-healing experiments. They report their findings in the journal Gastroenterology.

The team found that CB2 was increased in colonic tissue characteristic of inflammatory bowel disease. Cannabinoids enhanced surface wound closure via CB1-related mechanisms.

"Cannabinoids, which we make ourselves, as well as synthetic cannabinoids, can promote wound healing in the gut, which is extremely interesting given that inflammatory bowel disease involves damaged gut linings," Wright said.

Although results are available yet, she added, relevant studies of the use of cannabinoids are taking place in the UK and a clinical trial is being conducted in Germany.

maybe the Final Solution to this one is for the President and his rubber-stamp Congress to declare Crohn's Disease illegal, and create another level of bureaucracy and enforcement -- with LOTS of new mancages, of course -- to teach a lesson to any fuckup who suffers from IBS

why wait until they're actually desperate enough to use pot?

not very efficient or economical for Der Mutterland . . .

put them in prison NOW -- or, at least, start tracking them, so they CAN be caged when they do seek relief

why, criminalizing IBS will open up a whole New Market for our ubiquitous, self-righteous predators!!

and isn't that really what It's All About? opening up New Markets for Our Way of Life?

9/11 Firefighters' Families Sift Through Trove of Newly Released Documents, Radio Transmissions

NEW YORK Aug 13, 2005 — The families of fallen firefighters revisited the heart-rending morning of Sept. 11 with the rest of the nation as the Fire Department opened a trove of finely sketched recollections of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

Relatives pored over more than 12,000 pages of oral histories and hours of recorded radio transmissions in which firefighters described in vivid, intimate detail how they rushed to save fleeing civilians before the twin towers collapsed in choking clouds of dust and debris.

For some families, the documents released after a three-year court battle with the city offered hints of their loved ones' last whereabouts, and confirmation that equipment problems contributed to their deaths. The attack killed 343 firefighters.

Sally Regenhard, mother of 28-year-old Christian Regenhard, said a breakdown of communications led to her son's death and that the response to the attack "has been sanitized by the city of New York in an effort to put all this under the rug."

could be worse, sally -- maybe your son was part of a carefully planned and executed mass-sacrifice

aside from technological elements, the destruction of the Twin Towers doesn't differ much from the mass blood sacrifices of human beings (often specifically including children) executed by many ancient, and even modern, cultures

roasting people upon "altars" has a very long history in the species -- and altars can be vertical as well as horizontal

certain occult powers accrue to such deeds -- certain "restorative" powers -- and that is why, long ago, a group of men circumnavigated the world, attempting to end such blood-rites, which often were vestiges of goddess-worshipping kinship groups and societies

but, of course, AMERICA doesn't worship the idols of the goddess!

hey sally: maybe your husband, the retired police sergeant, should re-think who he and his pals at the Station have been putting in cages all these years -- and start hunting the REAL "criminals" and "evildoers"

She and her husband, retired police Sgt. Al Regenhard, learned a sliver of information about their son's last minutes during the three-hour session. He had been filling in that day for a firefighter in Engine 279 of Red Hook, Brooklyn, which was told to head toward the south tower; she even learned the name of his commander.

"It's very emotional. It's very difficult," she said. "But it's no harder than knowing every day that my son is gone."

The histories, recorded in the weeks and months after the attack, offer a glimpse of firefighters battling their own fears as they fought to save others.

Trapped in the mall below the trade center after the collapse of the south tower, James Murphy and a group of fellow firefighters started hunting for the exits. Frightened civilians began grabbing onto them, he said.
"We were saying, `Don't worry, we're with the Fire Department.

Everybody is going to get out,'" Murphy recalled. But, he said, "We were just as scared as anybody else. We were just victims, too. Basically the only difference between us and the victims is we had flashlights."

Firefighter Kirk Long, whose Engine 1 was sent to the north tower, spoke of climbing upward in the north tower as civilians fled in the opposite direction.

"I was watching every person coming down, looked at their face, just to make them happy that they were getting out and we were going in, and everything was OK," Long said in his oral history.

The radio transmissions added new texture to the historical record of the day, beginning at 8:46 a.m. with an urgent description of a plane crashing into the World Trade Center.

"The World Trade Center tower Number One is on fire!" one firefighter radioed.

As the depth of the crisis became clear, the voices on the radios thickened with panic.

"Send every available ambulance, everything you got to the World Trade Center," a firefighter calls from Engine 1. "Now!"

Another firefighter, Maureen McArdle-Schulman, recalled hearing someone yell before the collapses that something was falling from the towers.

She said she thought it might have been desks coming out.

"Then the first body hit and then we knew what it was," she said. "I was getting sick. I felt like I was intruding on a sacrament.

human beings have become so ego-conscious in the modern world, so camoflaged and insulated behind their personas, it's rare that even a smidge of light finds its way into our dark and darkening world

but under conditions of extreme horror and stress, maureen's "unconscious" pooped out a little turd of truth

she WAS "intruding on a sacrament"

but WHOSE "sacrament"?

They were choosing to die and I was watching them and shouldn't have been. So me and another guy turned away and looked at a wall and we could still hear them hit."

The records shed some new light onto lingering questions and long-standing complaints about the response. Firefighters described faulty communications equipment and some orders that weren't obeyed.

Some city officials, including former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, have suggested that firefighters ignored the mayday call in acts of personal heroism. But a group of activist families has sought to lay blame on the city for providing firefighters with radios that didn't work.

Firefighter Paul Bessler recalled a colleague storming up the north tower's stairs as if he was "on a mission."

"Just at that point, my radio came clear as day, 'Imminent collapse. This was a terrorist attack. Evacuate.'"

But Thomas Piambino said he heard "absolutely nothing" ordering him out. He and others nearby left the tower before it fell, but he said he didn't know why.

"It was just the culmination of intuition or what," he said. "I just decided it was time to go."

The transcripts reinforced the perception that some firefighters dropped protocol and simply acted according to their best instincts.

Firefighter Patrick Martin of Engine 229 said that after the south tower had collapsed and before the north tower came down, his lieutenant ordered him to a boat taking people to hospitals across the Hudson River.
"I told him I wasn't leaving," Martin said. "We were still missing one guy."

The New York Times and families of Sept. 11 victims sued the city in 2002 to release the records, which were collected by fire officials in the days after the attack.

The city withheld them, but in March, the state's highest court ordered their release, allowing the city to leave out potentially painful and embarrassing parts. Portions of 911 calls have yet to be released.

The Fire Department, in a statement, said it hoped the release of the records would not cause firefighters and their families additional pain.
"The department believes that the materials being released today … will serve to further confirm the bravery and courage of our members who responded to the World Trade Center," the statement said.

as usual in this nation, we have again been deceived

the main question is: what level of deception?

is the municipality/state of New York merely posturing to discourage lawsuits from the families of 9/11 victims?

or does the rathole go deeper? MUCH deeper?

for sure, we are in the midst of full-on spiritual warfare in this nation, and the "Good Guys," for the most part, ain't

same as it ever was

running into burning buildings to help others is so honorable and courageous, that i'd be very upset to learn that the energy and love of their sacrifice was used for foul purpose, by despicable, power-mad punks

Study: In dating, extravagant gifts keep on giving

By Michelle Lefort, USA TODAY Tue Aug 9, 7:09 AM ET

If you want to win the object of your affection, an extravagant gift that has no resale value is the way to go.

That's not the opinion of a battle-weary veteran of the dating scene. It's the conclusion of a mathematical model created by researchers at University College London.

Dating obviously involves gifts, and not just among humans. Gift-giving also appears in the mating rituals of some insect species. A team of applied mathematicians created a sequential calculation as a model of dating. The new study, designed to explore the role of gift-giving in courtship, appears online in the biological science journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

According to the model's creator, Robert Seymour, a math professor at the university, this model reduces dating to a collection of numbers.
The researchers assigned points to an array of courtship behaviors, including gift-giving. The computer considered the hypothetical facts, mulled over a few variables and calculated which behaviors would result in the highest score for the imaginary male or female dater.

This is what applied mathematicians do. They look at these kinds of outcomes and interpret them in a biological framework.
Because the goal was to understand the role of gift-giving, the researchers varied the type of gift the man could give. (Political correctness aside, it was a given that the man was the pursuer and gift-giver.)

"political correctness aside," Michelle?!!

since fucking when?!

whenever It's Convenient For Females?

LOL!!

so "it's a given" that the man is the gift-giver, eh?

who made That Rule, Michelle?

In the model, a man chooses a worthless, valuable or extravagant gift. Valuable gifts might include diamonds or appliances, expensive items that have intrinsic value in that they are useful and can fetch a good price if resold. Extravagant gifts, on the other hand, would be something like dinner at a fancy restaurant, tickets to a Broadway show or a moonlit serenade. The value of these gifts is just in the experience.

The model showed that extravagant gifts had the highest score for both men and women. In Seymour's interpretation of the results, women feel confident that they have found a strong and committed mate when they receive an extravagant gift. And men avoid gold-diggers by giving only gifts that have no intrinsic value.

"In order to create trust, it has to work both ways," Seymour says. "The male signals his commitment by giving a costly gift, (but) the male has to avoid a female who will take his assets and then say 'get lost.' "

ok, got it . . . so here in the postmodern West, "trust" between males and females is based on a value-continuum of material objects

Would flesh-and-blood women really prefer a horse-drawn carriage ride to a diamond? Relationship experts have mixed feelings about whether the model's insights translate to real life.

Relationship Experts should be tied to the back of SUVs and drug to the city dump

Linda Carter, a couples therapist and director of family studies at New York University's child studies center, sees some truth there. "The more the energy, cost, extravagance - the attention - that goes into (a gift), I think the assumption would be that he is really interested."

sad

and worse, dis-spirited

But personal touches and shared experiences should be considered extravagant, she cautions, rather than costly grand gestures, because these are the best indications of commitment and interest.

Daniel Kruger, a psychologist at the University of Michigan, says the model is a simplistic take on highly complex behavior. "It's interesting to look at, but I wouldn't make an inference about what to do in a relationship based on these models."

Kruger is interested by the evolutionary interpretation of the results. The male peacock's beautiful, and cumbersome, tail might be an example of extravagance in the animal kingdom, he suggests.

"If women are complaining about how men are in relationships, they should think about the hanging fly," Kruger says. The male hanging fly gives the female a gift - a large dead insect - only to take it back after mating to be used in his next encounter.

my New Hero, Mr. Hanging Z Fly, released this Terse Statement today from his heavily fortified and stanky headquarters in South Dungland:

Doods, take it from Z Fly, there's only so many Dead Insects, but lotsa Fish in the Sea!

Dead Insect Gathering is tiresome and dangerous work, and conservation of resources is the Soul of Nature.

I'm worth it. Just ask Mom!

You unfotunate and enslaved human males, by the way, are an embarrassment to the entire faunal gender. Grow some gonies, guys! Even the black widow doods are laughing at you . . . .

Now, buzz off!! I gotta go do the Mate Thang

Okay, where'd I leave my Ded Insect?

Mindfucking in Der Materland

these shows, which dominate u.s. teevee, are just anti-male propaganda, plain and simple -- intended to inflame the "sense of justice" (hardy-har-har!!) of u.s. females and those working in the corrupt "justice" and "corrections" industries (our Prison America Complex) -- and to convince the Sheeple that we need to keep building and filling the Mancages in order to be "safe" here in Der Homeland

the idea behind most of the cop/lawyer/crime scene/etc etc shows is to continue fracturing america into Good Guys (cops, prosecutors, the system, and the Holy Victim) and Bad Guys (overwhelmingly, those Evildoer Males, the majority of whom are NOT violent, but perpetrators of "crimes against the public conscience")

"public conscience" = whatever Big Mama decides today (better hope she ain't PMS!! . . .)

i saw a promo for CBS's new TripleSpeak Mindfuck offering, called "Close to Home" -- even the trailer was FULL of self-justification, self-victimization, and gleeful exuberance as Missy (backed by the fist of the matriarchal State) hunts down and brings to "justice" assorted Evildoers (who, lemme take a wild guess here, will almost always be males)
here's their synopsis:

"Close to Home" stars Jennifer Finnigan ("The Bold and the Beautiful", "Committed") in a legal drama that tears away the facade of suburbia to reveal that sometimes quiet and tranquil streets can hide the darkest of crimes. Annabeth Chase (Finnigan) is a young, aggressive prosecutor with a perfect conviction record who tries the cases that take place in her own backyard. Returning to work after having her first child, Annabeth is ready to take on the most difficult cases, fueled by her passion to protect her community and her family."

HER community and HER family is right!!

MINE! MINE! MINE! -- think that might appeal to american women?

LOL

be assured that "Close to Home" ain't gonna "tear away the facade" of WOMAN'S dark side, in suburbia or anywhere else . . .

it's a lot easier to continue the annihilation of american men and boys, and the destruction of the Constitution and whatever's left of our civil liberties, after the public has been saturated for a couple decades with psycho-conditioning that assures them, over and over, that their predatory and misandrist "justice system" is Good

i mean, how couldn't it be? a sweet, cute little Jennifer is the Big Bad Prosecutor -- and we all KNOW that SHE is absolutely committed to Equal Justice for Everyone, aren't we?

LOL!!

much of american teevee is carefully designed by the networks, government, and various "Intelligence" groups to appeal directly to the ameican woman's massively inflated sense of moral supremacy, victimization, and unending thirst for blood-retribution (uh, against MALES, of course -- tho the occasional Token Female Evildoer will be tossed in to maintain the appearance of "fairness")

notice how the Electronic Illusionists sneaked the word "Home" into the title -- a mnemonic designed to recall "Homeland Security" in the soggled minds of the Sheeple

it's sick, it's america . . .

welcome to the matriarchy!

you will be whipped until you revolt

American woman gonna mess your mind
American woman gonna mess your mind
American woman gonna mess your mind

American woman, said get away
American woman, listen what I say
Don’t come hangin’ around my door
Don’t wanna see your face no more
I don’t need your war machines
I don’t need your ghetto scenes
Coloured lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else’s eyes
Now woman, get away from me
