How Shall We Pray?
discovery was announced today of two pieces of brown animal skin, inscribed in Hebrew with verses from the Book of Leviticus, found in the "refugee" caverns of Nachal Arugot (near the Dead Sea)
today's announcement reminded me of "yesterday's" announcement . . .
following are nonconsecutive passages from Codex III, Nag Hammadi codices (Coptic copy), the "Dialogue of the Savior" [not a translated title, but one created and appended well after the textual composition]

Judas [Thomas] said, "Behold! The governors [archons, authorities, planets] dwell above us, so it is they who will rule over us!"
The Lord said, "It is you who will rule over them! But when you rid yourselves of jealousy, then you will clothe yourselves in light and enter the bridal chamber."

Matthew said, "Tell me, Lord, how the dead die and how the living live?"
The Lord said "You have asked me for a word [about that] which eye hath not seen, nor have I heard about it, except from you. But I say unto you, that when that which moves man is withdrawn he will be called 'dead' and when the living one sets free the dead one, he will be called the 'living.'"

Judas said "You have said this to us from the mind of truth. When we pray, how shall we pray?"
The Lord said "Pray in the place where there is no woman."
Matthew said "He says to us 'Pray in the place where there is no woman.' and 'Destroy the works of femaleness' not because she is another [...] but so that the works will cease."
Mariah said "Will they never be destroyed?"
The Lord said "The Mother is the one who knows that the works of femaleness will dissolve and be destroyed in this place."

Judas responded, saying, "Tell me, Lord, how it is that [...] which shakes the earth moves."
The Lord picked up a stone and held it in his hand, saying "What am I holding in my hand?"
He [Judas] said, "It is a stone."
He [the Lord] said to them, "That which supports the earth is that which supports the heaven. When a Word comes forth from the Greatness, it will come on what supports the heaven and the earth. For the earth does not move. Were it to move, it would fall. But it neither moves nor falls, in order that the First Word might not fail . . . [I]f one does not stand in the darkness, he will not be able to see the light.
